Activitities
Turning Brussels into an international city is a major challenge. In this context, the convention sector is a key growth area. The new convention centre will have to co-exist with other functions that will be defined and located as part of an overall plan, including:
well-being, conviviality, aestheticism, mobility, the neighbouring urban fabric and sustainable development.
The current role of the Plateau, a vital centre for organising faires and exhibitions, and a leisure centre. Accounting between these activities is indispensable.
- Convention centre: 5.000 seats in the main hall, alongside smaller rooms annexed to it
- Shopping centre: up to 100.000 m2, national-scale shopping facilities, encouraging business tourism
- Recreational and leisure area: hotel complex and the Atomium, which is the top tourist attraction in Brussels (1 million visitors).
- Sports infrastructure for all with a variant including a 60.000-seat multi-function stadium
- Concert hall: 15.000 plaatsen (indoor)
- Accommodation complex
- Administrative areas in harmony with the site.
These activities are wholly or partly compatible and complementary with the operation and development of the Trade Mart.
