      Over an area of 27 hectares, the sports park is divided into different independent but linked clusters.

      In addition to other leisure infrastructures already on the site (notably the Primerose tennis club), numerous new sports facilities will be set up:

      • synthetic football, rugby and hockey grounds;
      • an archery practice range;
      • an athletics track and ground for numerous disciplines;
      • an urban sport zone with areas for volley ball, basketball, mini football, etc.;
      • a petanque club
      • and more…

      The aim is to offer all residents of Brussels the opportunity to enjoy a large open-air swimming pool situated in a pleasant green area. It will be designed as a landscaped pool which will add to the attractiveness of the park and the whole site, throughout the year.

      The objective of this outdoor pool (unique in Brussels) is also to enhance the future leisure area which will be developed on the Heysel Plateau (Atomium, future indoor and outdoor leisure facilities of the NEO project, sports park, green walking areas, etc.). It will therefore be situated in the immediate vicinity of the sports park in continuity with public areas.

      The pool will be open during the summer months.

      This swimming pool will be based on the very latest environmental concepts:

      • it will be fed by rainwater collected on roofs at the site;
      • it will be integrated with the rainwater drainage system and act as a storm water basin (reducing the risk of flooding);
      • it will have natural planted zones enabling water quality to be treated naturally;
      • it will have “natural banks” for swimmers, as if they were on the beach.
  • Heysel is situated on sloping ground. Lakes and watercourses will therefore be established in various parts of the site More

      Heysel is situated on sloping ground. Lakes and watercourses will therefore be established in various parts of the site. Terraces can be formed at the water’s edge, in natural settings. This layout could also feed most buildings.

    • Enlargement of Verregat Park from 12,000 m² to 17,000 m²

      One of the major challenges for the NEO project on the Heysel Plateau is to achieve a development that combines urbanism and nature. The specifications imposed on the private partners responsible for NEO I, II and III are already very strict in terms of greenness and vegetation. However the Region and the City of Brussels want to go further and strengthen the greenness of the surrounding area.

      Specifically, the objectives are to reduce automobile congestion, improve pedestrian mobility and maximise the quality of park usage by local residents.

      The whole Heysel plateau area will have public spaces and high-quality pedestrian and cycle paths encouraging natural, environment-friendly links between all future components of the NEO project: homes, shops, leisure areas, public spaces, sports fields, parks, car park C, etc. Two Villo stations and a thousand bicycle places will be provided.

      In addition to the various functions of the site, the attractiveness of NEO will also include its appeal as a walking area thanks to its pathways and delightful, natural open spaces.
